Record signing Kasper Hogh netted a first-half hat-trick to lead Celtic to a resounding 5-1 victory over Kilmarnock at Rugby Park. The Danish striker's performance on his second appearance for the club comes after he suggested he might need time to adapt to Scottish Premiership football following his transfer from Bodo Glimt, where he played on artificial turf.

Hogh's quick adaptation was evident as he opened the scoring within 60 seconds, heading home an inviting cross from Arne Engels. Despite a brief response from Kilmarnock, which included a last-ditch goalline clearance from Auston Trusty to deny Aaron Tshibola, Celtic asserted dominance. Max Stryjek made several saves for Kilmarnock, but he could not prevent Hogh from doubling Celtic's lead in the 33rd minute after latching onto a pass from Benjamin Nygren. Hogh completed his hat-trick just two minutes later, nodding home another cross, this time from Camilo Duran, to put Celtic 3-0 up before halftime.

Celtic's fluid attacking play and quick passing proved too much for Kilmarnock, who were booed off at the break. The home side's struggles continued at the start of the second half when Stryjek gifted the ball to Nygren, who calmly lifted it over the goalkeeper for Celtic's fourth goal.

Kilmarnock managed to pull one back through Michael Schjonning-Larsen just before the hour mark, but Celtic extended their lead further. Duran hit the crossbar, and Hogh came close to a fourth goal, only to be denied by the post. Substitute Luke McCowan sealed the 5-1 victory with his first touch shortly after coming on.

The match marked the first game on Kilmarnock's new state-of-the-art grass pitch, replacing the artificial surface that had been in place for 12 years. For Kilmarnock manager Neil McCann, the result is a concerning start to the season, with the team having conceded nine goals in their opening two matches and currently sitting at the bottom of the table.

Celtic manager Martin O'Neill was absent from the dugout due to a health scare, with Shaun Maloney taking charge of the team. The victory provides a significant confidence boost for Hogh and the team as they continue their campaign.
