Hofstra men's head basketball coach Speedy Claxton participated in the university's annual move-in day, joining hundreds of athletic department staff and student-athletes in assisting new students with settling into their dorms. Claxton expressed pride in his involvement, noting the positive interactions with families.
"The families, they thank us so much, and they even try to tip us," Claxton told The Post. "We get our hands dirty. We go, load our carts."
Claxton, who led Hofstra to its first NCAA tournament appearance in 25 years, views this tradition as a reciprocal relationship. He believes that new students who are helped on move-in day are more likely to attend games later in the season. "Once they come to one or two games, I think they’ll like it," Claxton said. "And they’ll keep coming."
Separately, Bethpage Polo at the Park is preparing for its popular "Pretty Woman Day" this Sunday, an event where attendees dress as the character Vivian from the 1990s film. Player George Fox described it as the most popular Sunday of the year, with many fans emulating Julia Roberts's iconic polka-dot dress from the movie. The event also features attendees imitating Roberts's character with a "woot woot woot!" call.
