Henry Pollock Signs Contract Extension with Northampton Saints

Henry Pollock has ended speculation about his future by signing a new multi-year contract extension with Northampton Saints, the defending Premiership champions.

"I am very, very happy to sign here," Pollock told BBC Radio Northampton. "I have been here my whole career so it made sense for me to stay on the journey with such a young group of players, who are so ambitious. It was a very easy decision in the end."

The 21-year-old flanker, who has become a prominent figure for England and the British and Irish Lions, had been the subject of intense transfer speculation. While his advisor, boxing promoter Eddie Hearn, had reportedly valued him as a "seven-figure player," such figures were unlikely to be met within the Premiership's salary cap. His new deal is understood to be in excess of £400,000 annually, though precise figures vary among sources. This places him well above the league's average salary of £191,000 and significantly higher than the average for players in his age bracket.

Pollock's previous contract, signed in December 2024, was reportedly worth around £150,000. The new agreement keeps him at Franklin's Gardens beyond the expiry of his prior deal in the summer of 2027.

Pollock, who was instrumental in Northampton's title run last season, admitted that the contract negotiations had been a distraction. "I don't create it, my team do," he said of the speculation. "It is one of those things that you have to take in your stride, but I am happy it is all done and I can focus on the rugby."

Regarding the team's prospects, Pollock expressed confidence in their ability to defend their title. "We have the squad depth and the belief in this group that we can do it," he stated. "Let's see, hopefully we can create some magic along the way. Let's write a new story."

Pollock made his league debut for Northampton in November 2023 and quickly established himself as a first-team regular. His performances, including his pace, energy, and try-scoring ability, led to his inclusion in the England squad and a call-up to the Lions. He scored two tries on his Test debut against Wales in March 2025 and was a notable inclusion in the Lions squad just two months later. His contributions to Northampton's run to the Champions Cup final earned him a nomination for the competition's player of the year award.

Northampton's director of rugby, Phil Dowson, praised Pollock's on-field quality and character. "Over the last few years, everyone has seen the quality he brings on the pitch and the speed of his rise through the game – but just as importantly, he's a young man of outstanding character," Dowson said. "What's most exciting is that there's still so much more to come from him. Henry is incredibly ambitious and constantly looking for ways to improve. He understands that individual success comes from contributing to a successful team, and he's already taken on leadership responsibilities within the squad despite his age."

Dowson also highlighted Pollock's rugby intelligence. "People sometimes underestimate how intelligent he is as a rugby player. When we sit down to review performances, he's often identified the same things we were going to discuss before we've even raised them. His understanding of the game is excellent, and that gives him a huge platform to keep progressing."
