Welsh heavyweight boxer Isaac Okoh has extended a playful invitation to Prince William for a sparring session, following the royal's attendance at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow. Okoh, who secured a gold medal in the heavyweight final, made the remarks after the Prince and Princess of Wales opted to watch netball matches.
"If he wants a pad session, tell him to call me. But the fee is quite high!" Okoh said of Prince William. "I don’t know what they’re into. They might come down and enjoy the fights. The atmosphere has been great this week so hopefully one day they might see me box."
Okoh, along with fellow gold medalists Sacha Hickey and Patris Mughalzai, contributed to England's strong performance, securing three gold medals within a short period.
These amateur fighters, who train together in Sheffield, are now setting their sights on future competitions, including the LA 2028 Olympics. Okoh expressed his ambition to achieve Olympic gold, drawing inspiration from successful British boxers like Nicola Adams, Anthony Joshua, and Amir Khan.
"You’re going to see us back at the top of the podium again," Okoh stated. "I feel like I’m one of the best in the world at 90kgs at the minute. I’m still young. Since September last year I’ve been on an amazing run of form, picking up loads of medals. Come LA, I’ll be looking to win another gold medal."
He views these achievements as crucial steps toward achieving his ultimate career goal of competing in major professional pay-per-view events. "It’s all building blocks towards the big pay-per-view nights that we all dream of. This is how we get there, winning medals like this at the Commonwealth Games and the Olympics. Hopefully one day you’ll see us on posters, buying our pay per views."
