Harry Whitwell Living the Dream at West Brom Amid Promotion Push
Young midfielder credits boss James Morrison and his own development for breakthrough season with the Baggies.
West Bromwich Albion midfielder Harry Whitwell is embracing his first-team breakthrough, describing his current experience as living a dream. The 20-year-old has become a key figure for the Baggies this season, impressing in pre-season and earning the trust of manager James Morrison.
Whitwell joined West Brom at the age of 11 and has since risen through the club's academy ranks. His recent performances have seen him make 12 appearances this season, and he recently signed a new contract with the club. He is determined to continue his development and not take his opportunities for granted.
Morrison, a former Baggies player, has played a significant role in Whitwell's development. "He's been brilliant, given me loads of advice and really helped me on my way," Whitwell said of his manager. The midfielder is also drawing inspiration from his teammates, including the club's Norwegian duo Aune Heggebo and Felix Horn Myhre. Whitwell has even used the language learning app Duolingo to try and pick up Norwegian.
The Baggies are currently enjoying a strong season, having moved up to fifth in the Championship. Whitwell is hopeful that the team can maintain their form and push for promotion.
Whitwell made his senior debut for West Brom in an FA Cup tie against Aldershot in January 2024. He is part of a new generation of talent at the club, alongside other promising youngsters like Jimmy-Jay Morgan.
