Socceroos vice-captain Harry Souttar is reportedly being considered by Wrexham, the Welsh club co-owned by Hollywood stars Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney. Souttar, 27, is understood to be open to a move following Leicester City's relegation to League One.
Wrexham has rapidly ascended through the football leagues since Reynolds and McElhenney acquired the club in 2021, rising from the National League to the Championship. The club narrowly missed out on promotion to the Premier League last season after finishing just outside the play-off places.
Souttar's recent performances for Australia during the FIFA World Cup have reportedly boosted his profile. He played in all three of Australia's group stage matches after recovering from a long-term Achilles injury that impacted his previous season with Leicester. Despite Leicester's disappointing campaign, the 198cm centre-back is highly regarded, with 87 Championship appearances to his name.
Wrexham, aiming for promotion to the Premier League, is expected to be active in the current transfer window and sees Souttar as a potential addition to strengthen their defense. His potential transfer would add another high-profile player to the club transformed by its celebrity owners.
Meanwhile, another Australian defender, Lucas Herrington, is also attracting attention from major European clubs, including Barcelona and Liverpool, following his breakthrough performance at the World Cup. Herrington, 18, has stated his focus remains on the tournament and that discussions about his club future are on hold until Australia's World Cup campaign concludes.
