Harry Kane Celebrates Ballon d'Or With Bayern Munich Fans, Misses Penalty in Draw
The England captain received a hero's welcome and presented his award before a 2-2 draw against Borussia Dortmund where he failed to convert a spot-kick.
Harry Kane was honored by Bayern Munich with a special presentation of his newly-won Ballon d'Or trophy ahead of the team's match against Borussia Dortmund. Kane, who was crowned the world's best player on Monday night, was met with a standing ovation from the home crowd at the Allianz Arena as "Land of Hope and Glory" played over the stadium's sound system. His family, including his wife, four children, parents, and brother, were present on the pitch to greet him.
"I'm extremely proud to be a Bayern player," Kane addressed the crowd. "The support you've shown me since I arrived is incredible. I'm extremely proud to present this to you. I hope to win many more titles with you." He concluded his remarks in German, saying, "Danke!"
Kane's success follows a remarkable 2025-26 season, where he scored 73 goals for Bayern Munich, leading them to a domestic treble, and captained England to a third-place finish at the World Cup.
Despite the celebratory atmosphere, Kane's return to the pitch saw him miss a penalty kick in the eventual 2-2 draw with Dortmund. After Konrad Laimer had given Bayern the lead, Kane's spot-kick struck the crossbar. Serhou Guirassy equalized for Dortmund before Kane assisted Dayot Upamecano's goal, putting Bayern ahead again. However, Fabio Silva scored in the 89th minute to secure a draw for the visitors.
Following his Ballon d'Or win on Monday, Kane had expressed his gratitude to his Bayern teammates and staff. "Without you guys [Bayern Munich team-mates] and the rest of the team it wouldn't be possible, the way you guys push me, the way we compete, so thank you very much," he stated. He also extended well wishes to manager Vincent Kompany, who was reportedly unwell. Kane added, "Since I have been with you I have improved as a player, improved as a person and a leader. It is an honour to play for Bayern Munich, to represent you is a real privilege and I am glad to be bringing this trophy back to Bayern Munich."
