Defender Josko Gvardiol has stated that new Manchester City manager Enzo Maresca is the "perfect one" for the club. Maresca was appointed on a three-year contract to replace Pep Guardiola, who departed after a decade at the helm.

Maresca, 46, previously led Leicester City to the Championship title and won the Club World Cup with Chelsea. He recently took charge of his first match for City in a friendly against Inter Milan in Hong Kong, which the team lost on penalties.

"The level is that high and he has been chosen with reason as the manager," Gvardiol said. "I think he has a quality, has some new ideas and also we need to see what we are going to do [with] the style of [play], the football we are going to play and the tactics."

Gvardiol acknowledged that adapting to a new manager requires time. "It takes time. It's something totally new, it's not easy to change the manager, so we will take time," he stated. "It's our job to help him as much as possible and also to listen to try to adapt as quick as possible."

Gvardiol also shared a brief interaction with Maresca regarding his past injury and playing style under Guardiola. "I met him, we spoke a little bit about my injury [and] also how we played, how I played before with Pep, and that's it, more or less."
