Tottenham Hotspur has accepted a loan offer from Juventus for their goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario. The deal includes an option for the Italian club to purchase the player permanently.
Vicario, 29, is expected to travel to Turin to finalize the move back to Serie A. The purchase option is reportedly set at £8.6 million. This transfer follows Juventus' failed attempts to sign Emiliano Martinez from Aston Villa, who are themselves nearing a deal for Parma's Zion Suzuki.
Vicario had lost his starting position at Tottenham last season under manager Roberto De Zerbi, who opted for understudy Antonin Kinsky. De Zerbi has indicated Kinsky will remain the first-choice goalkeeper for the upcoming season. Martin Dubravka was also signed on a free transfer from Burnley in July to provide additional cover and competition.
Vicario joined Tottenham from Empoli in 2023 and made 117 appearances for the club. His departure comes as Tottenham are reportedly undergoing significant squad changes, with multiple players sold, loaned out, or released, including captain Cristian Romero, Djed Spence, and Yves Bissouma. The club has also been active in signing new players, reportedly embarking on a record spending spree and targeting further attacking reinforcements.
