NBA coaching icon Gregg Popovich has reportedly married Mary Barth Budenholzer, the ex-wife of his former assistant coach Mike Budenholzer. The wedding is said to have taken place in Texas on September 16, according to TMZ.
Budenholzer was a key figure on Popovich's staff with the San Antonio Spurs for nearly two decades, serving as an assistant coach from 1996 to 2013. He initially joined the organization as a video coordinator in 1994.
Together, Popovich and Budenholzer were instrumental in the Spurs dynasty, leading the team to four NBA championships in 1999, 2003, 2005, and 2007. Budenholzer eventually left San Antonio in 2013 to become the head coach of the Atlanta Hawks. He later earned two NBA Coach of the Year awards and secured his own championship with the Milwaukee Bucks in 2021.
Mike and Mary Budenholzer divorced in 2016 after many years of marriage, during which they raised four children. Popovich experienced personal tragedy in April 2018 with the passing of his wife of 40 years, Erin Popovich, after a lengthy illness. They had two children, Jill and Micky.
