Gotham FC solidified their first-place position in the National Women's Soccer League (NWSL) by defeating the Kansas City Current 2-1 on Friday night at Subaru Park in Harrison, New Jersey. The victory extended their lead in the standings to seven points over the idle Washington Spirit.

The match saw an early shock as the Current's Amelia White scored just 22 seconds into the contest, tying the record for the fastest goal in NWSL history. However, Gotham FC quickly responded.

Midge Purce equalized for Gotham FC in the 13th minute, pouncing on a loose ball after a free kick delivery from Jaedyn Shaw deflected off Current defender Gabrielle Robinson.

Veteran forward Sam Kerr, at 33 years old, secured the winning goal for Gotham FC in the 41st minute. After a skillful play by Shaw, who dribbled past two defenders, Kerr received a pass and tapped the ball into the net. This goal marked Kerr's 31st career tally for Gotham FC, making her the club's all-time leading scorer.

With this win, Gotham FC improved their record to 13 wins, 3 losses, and 4 draws, accumulating 43 points in the league standings. The team continues its strong performance as the NWSL season progresses.
