Golden State Valkyries Advance to WNBA Semifinals After Dramatic Game 3 Victory

The Golden State Valkyries have reached the WNBA semifinals for the first time in franchise history, staging a remarkable comeback to defeat the Dallas Wings 77-73 in Game 3 of their first-round playoff series. The victory marks a significant achievement for the WNBA expansion team in its inaugural season.

Forward Gabby Williams led the Valkyries with 19 points, including key baskets in the second half that fueled the rally. Golden State erased a 16-point deficit to secure the win in a tightly contested game that came down to the final seconds. Veronica Burton contributed 16 points, 10 rebounds, and six assists, while Kaila Charles hit a crucial tying three-pointer late in the game. Tiffany Hayes added 18 points off the bench.

The decisive moment occurred with 13.1 seconds remaining when Williams secured her own miss on a play that was initially ruled in favor of the Wings. A successful challenge by Valkyries coach Natalie Nakase, who was later seen needing assistance after the game, reversed the call and helped seal the victory.

Dallas was led by Arike Ogunbowale, who scored 30 points after a 45-point performance in Game 2. Paige Bueckers added 17 points and six assists for the Wings, but shot just 3 of 14 from the field.

The Valkyries’ success extends beyond the playoffs. The team has garnered significant attention in its inaugural season, receiving the league's highest valuation from Forbes. They also set a league attendance record, averaging over 18,000 fans per home game and selling out every regular season contest.

Golden State will now face the defending WNBA champion Las Vegas Aces in the semifinals, beginning Sunday. The other semifinal matchup will feature the Atlanta Dream against the New York Liberty.
