Glasner Vows Radical Overhaul at Nottingham Forest After Scathing Rant
Nottingham Forest manager Oliver Glasner expressed deep dissatisfaction following a 2-0 loss to Brentford, warning players of significant changes or his own departure.
Nottingham Forest manager Oliver Glasner has issued an ultimatum to his squad, vowing to enact sweeping changes or risk his own dismissal after a disappointing 2-0 defeat at Brentford. The loss leaves the club precariously positioned second from bottom in the Premier League standings.
Glasner, who joined Forest from Crystal Palace in the summer, revealed his frustration with what he perceives as player attitudes and a lack of commitment to his methods. He made it clear that if the team does not improve, he will be forced to make drastic decisions.
"We have to accept it's not good enough," Glasner stated at a press conference following the match. "If we lose four of the last five games, it's not good enough. And that's why for me, it's now time that we change things, that I change things, and that's what I will do."
He elaborated on his willingness to make uncompromising decisions, even referencing a player's request to travel back to Nottingham separately from the team after the game as an example of the issues he faces. "I feel now maybe I made too many compromises in some stuff, and it's always compromises," he said, banging the table in emphasis.
Glasner indicated that he is prepared to be replaced if his demands are not met. "It's a clear way. I will tell [the players] what we want to do, what we have to do, and if the players buy in, I think we can have a turnaround, and if not, the sixth manager [since the start of last season] will come in," he warned. "I have no consequences. I think you see that. For me, I go home and have breakfast with my family. It's not the worst situation. Nobody needs to have pity with Oliver Glasner or with the manager. If I want, I could start in two weeks somewhere else. I won't do it."
However, he stressed the impact on the players and staff. "But, you know, the players, the staff, they remain in the same situation. And it's the same, sorry for the word, s*** situation that the club had last year," he explained. "So you need to change and rebuild from the bottom to the top. And this is clear for me. And this is what I will do. And without any compromises. Zero. Zero. And if these things don't work, they will let me know [about my exit]."
The defeat at Brentford saw Forest concede an own goal from Nikola Milenkovic before Igor Thiago sealed the victory for the home side, marking Brentford's first win in five games.
Glasner expressed his determination to succeed at the club. "I didn't come to Nottingham because I was bored at home. No, I came to Nottingham to succeed. I came to Nottingham to get the visions of the owner and the fans and the club to reality. And therefore we need to have a bigger change than maybe I thought, to be honest."
He acknowledged that he cannot achieve this alone but insisted on a clear direction. "But again, Oliver Glasner can't do anything alone. And I said this so often, and not just after a defeat. I always said the same after winning. It's not me, no, but we're all together and can do it. But I know where we have to go. And therefore, it's exactly this, being ruthless. And either you buy in or you leave. It's the only way."
Glasner highlighted a recurring pattern of struggle for the club. "Because, and I mentioned it, if you're three times struggling, four or five Premier League seasons, struggling, being at the bottom of the league, there is a pattern," he noted. "And I just know that Oliver Glasner is not here for five years. You see my mood, right? So, yes (I understand fans’ boos)."
He concluded by emphasizing the need for personnel changes if the current approach does not yield results. "We are outrun by the opposition in every single game to change it. And if you can't change it, we need different personnel. And if the club doesn't want to change it, they need a different manager. I'm desperate to change it. Desperate."
