New York Giants head coach John Harbaugh has kept his starting lineup close to the vest ahead of the team's preseason opener against the Minnesota Vikings on Saturday at MetLife Stadium. Harbaugh told reporters Thursday that personnel decisions would remain undisclosed until game time, stating, "We’ll see when the game comes."
This ambiguity surrounding the Giants' quarterback situation makes the Vikings a more appealing choice for bettors, according to analysts. Minnesota head coach Kevin O’Connell has confirmed that both Kyler Murray, who recently secured the starting quarterback position, and former starter J.J. McCarthy will play. The Vikings also plan to give playing time to Carson Wentz, who competed for a starting role and made five starts last season, finishing with a 2-3 record. Max Brosmer, the fourth-string quarterback, also saw action in two games last season.
In contrast, the Giants could primarily rely on backups Jameis Winston and Brandon Allen if Harbaugh opts to limit the snaps for potential starter Jaxson Dart. While Dart may still play, the overall quarterback situation for the Giants presents more unknowns compared to the Vikings. With Murray and McCarthy confirmed to play and Wentz potentially seeing the field as well, Minnesota is expected to have a more defined and experienced quarterback presence throughout Saturday's game.
