New York Giants rookie wide receiver Malachi Fields is embracing advice from veteran Plaxico Burress as he steps into a starting role. Fields, who will start opposite Malik Nabers in the regular-season opener against the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday night, has drawn comparisons to the former Giants standout.
Adam Mima, a wide receivers coach at Virginia who helped Fields transition from quarterback to receiver, sees a high ceiling for the young player. "Obviously Malachi has a ways to go, but I think that he has all of the talent, all of the natural ability and the skill set to have a really, really good career in the NFL," Mims told The Post. "If he can stay healthy, if he can just be who he is, he’s gonna have a long career, and he’s gonna do a lot of good things in New York."
Fields, listed at 6-foot-4 and 222 pounds, shares physical similarities with Burress, who stood 6-5 and weighed 231 pounds. Fields met Burress during his final college season at Notre Dame. The rookie wideout views himself as quarterback-friendly, a characteristic also associated with Burress due to his size and catch radius. This perception is shared by those within the Giants organization. Maldachi Fields makes a touchdown catch against Minnesota Vikings linebacker Ivan Pace Jr.
