New York Giants quarterback Jaxson Dart is undergoing continued medical evaluations for a left knee injury suffered during Monday night's game against the Los Angeles Rams, with a source confirming to Outkick that a season-ending absence has not been ruled out. The possibility arises if Dart requires surgery for a detached MCL ligament, which could involve a four to five-month recovery timeline.
Coach John Harbaugh stated Tuesday that evaluations are ongoing and no final decisions have been made regarding the next steps for Dart's knee. Harbaugh indicated that a meeting with Dart after he receives a second opinion on his MRI on Tuesday would precede any decision, made in conjunction with medical experts and the quarterback.
OutKick initially reported Monday night that Dart had sustained an MCL sprain and would miss time. Following the game, Harbaugh acknowledged that reports of an MCL sprain were in the correct "neighborhood." Earlier, general manager Joe Schoen had told sideline reporter Laura Ruthledge that Dart "will be OK," though the timeline for his potential return remains uncertain.
Dart will not play in the upcoming Sunday game against the Tennessee Titans. Jameis Winston is expected to step in as the Giants' starting quarterback. The team may also promote Jake Haener from the practice squad to serve as a backup and could potentially add Brandon Allen.
