The New York Giants secured a 28-20 victory over the Dallas Cowboys in their Week 1 matchup at MetLife Stadium, with the defense playing a pivotal role in limiting the Cowboys' offensive output.

Offensive Performance

The Giants' offense demonstrated strong balance, accumulating 230 passing yards and 165 rushing yards. Quarterback Jaxson Dart completed 23 of 29 passes for 230 yards and three touchdowns, while also contributing 54 rushing yards on 11 carries. Tight end Isaiah Likely was a significant target, recording eight receptions for 78 yards and two touchdowns. Running back Cam Skattebo added 81 rushing yards and a touchdown on 18 carries. Wide receiver Malik Nabers, who participated in the game, made a notable impact with six catches for 69 yards. However, Tyrone Tracy Jr. fumbled the ball deep in Dallas territory, a mistake that cost the team.

Defensive Stand

Despite some pressure, the Giants' defense largely held firm against the Cowboys. The longest plays surrendered by the defense were for 17 yards. Quarterback Dak Prescott was contained, finishing the game with 22 completions on 34 attempts for 175 yards, two touchdowns, and one interception. A key momentum-shifting play came in the first half with a diving interception by safety Jevón Holland. The defense did not record any sacks, an area noted for improvement. Cornerbacks Deonte Banks and Greg Newsome II were effective in coverage against Cowboys receivers, and Dallas's rushing offense averaged only 3.8 yards per carry. Pass interference penalties against Newsome and Dru Phillips contributed to one of the Cowboys' touchdowns. Phillips was also flagged for two more pass interference calls in the third quarter.
