Giants Cornerback Dru Phillips Aims to Learn From Week 1 Penalties
Third-year player acknowledges need to correct pass interference issues ahead of Monday night's game against the Rams.
New York Giants cornerback Dru Phillips is focusing on turning his three pass interference penalties from Week 1 into a learning opportunity as the team prepares to face the Los Angeles Rams.
Phillips, a third-year player, was flagged three times for interference during the Giants' season-opening 28-20 victory over the Dallas Cowboys. These penalties provided the Cowboys with significant yardage, including one instance in the first quarter where a flag gave Dallas 19 free yards, leading to a game-tying touchdown three plays later.
"The first one I was getting beat up the whole route, I can’t even tell you what happened half the time," Phillips told The Post after Wednesday’s practice. He indicated that cleaning up these mistakes before the next game is a priority.
The Giants are set to play the Rams at SoFi Stadium on Monday night, and Phillips' performance will be under scrutiny as he works to refine his technique and avoid repeat penalties. The team's ability to limit these infractions will be crucial in their upcoming matchups.
