New York Giants head coach John Harbaugh has issued a clear warning to quarterback Jaxson Dart and the rest of the team following a touchdown celebration that resulted in a penalty. Dart’s score, achieved on a simulated run during a training camp practice, was followed by a gesture where he tossed the ball toward the face mask of cornerback Greg Newsome II.

Harbaugh immediately identified the action as a 15-yard penalty for taunting. Although the extra point attempt was initially made, it was retrospectively moved back 15 yards due to the penalty, requiring kicker Ben Sauls to convert a more challenging 48-yard attempt. Harbaugh noted that the incident made what should have been a routine conversion into a difficult kick.

While the Giants encourage a competitive and feisty attitude from their players, Harbaugh emphasized that there are boundaries that should not be crossed. He indicated that Dart, by being singled out, received a clear message about the team’s expectations.

Teammate Isaiah Likely acknowledged the competitive nature of the play, stating that such intensity is what you want in a quarterback. However, he also recognized Newsome as a strong competitor who would not back down. The training camp environment, particularly in red zone situations, can foster such competitive exchanges.

Harbaugh also outlined his policy on potential altercations during practice, stating that the play clock would continue to run, effectively penalizing teams for extended fighting by forcing them to quickly regroup for the next play.

In other team news, safety Tyler Nubin reported that he is playing at a lighter weight this season, around 205 pounds, aiming for increased speed. Nubin believes this adjustment has him in the best shape of his career, potentially addressing previous difficulties in pursuing ball carriers who had broken past the defensive line.

The Giants are also introducing new broadcast elements for their preseason games, including three 30-minute pregame shows on NBC and a Spanish-language broadcast of the Aug. 22 game against the Dolphins on Telemundo 47/WNJU.
