Georgia Reaches No. 1 in AP Top 25 After Beating Alabama

Georgia has claimed the No. 1 position in The Associated Press Top 25 college football poll, marking their first time at the summit since September 8, 2024. The Bulldogs' ascent came after a 20-17 road victory against Alabama. This win propelled Georgia, which had been ranked second for five consecutive weeks, to the top spot, receiving 66 of 70 first-place votes.

Notre Dame moved up to No. 2 in the rankings after a decisive 58-7 win over Stanford. The Fighting Irish, who earned one first-place vote, hold their highest ranking since the end of the 2024 season when they finished at No. 2. No. 3 Miami, followed by Ohio State and Indiana, complete the top five. Indiana received the final first-place vote after a narrow win against Nebraska. Alabama, after its loss to Georgia, remained at No. 6, with Texas, BYU, Mississippi, and Texas Tech rounding out the top 10.

In other notable shifts, No. 12 UCLA and No. 15 Kentucky saw significant gains. The Bruins climbed nine spots with their victory over Oregon. The Wildcats entered the rankings at No. 15 following a 35-34 overtime win against LSU. The Tigers, coached by Lane Kiffin, dropped from No. 10 to No. 22 after their overtime defeat.

Texas, led by quarterback Arch Manning, fell six places to No. 7 after losing to rival Oklahoma. Oregon, which began the season with its highest preseason ranking ever at No. 2, is no longer ranked. The Ducks' 17-15 home loss to UCLA, fueled by turnovers, dropped them to a 3-2 record and out of the Top 25 for the first time in four years. This marks the first time Oregon has been unranked since a loss to Georgia in the 2022 season opener.
