George Lombard Jr., the New York Yankees' top prospect, has been activated by Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, returning to play after missing approximately one month due to a pair of sprained fingers on his glove hand.
The activation marks a potential step toward his return to The Bronx, as the "Yankees' George Lombard Jr. watch has started again," according to one report. Before his injury, Lombard had been showing signs of adapting to the Double-A Somerset level and was beginning to replicate that success with Scranton/Wilkes-Barre after a late April promotion.
In his first 15 games with the Triple-A team, Lombard was hitting .127 with seven singles. He is now back on the field, with his return sparking renewed attention on his progress within the Yankees' system.
