Gary Neville Slams Manchester United Players as 'Unprofessional' and Accuses Them of 'Conning' Michael Carrick

Gary Neville has accused Manchester United's players of "conning" interim manager Michael Carrick and branded them "unprofessional" in a harsh critique following the team's recent defeats.

Neville expressed his frustration on a Sky Sports podcast, stating he has "no time for the players" and that some individuals "don't go to bed at the right time, don't eat the right things" and do not dedicate themselves to the club.

"They've teased him, haven't they? They've conned him for a few months," Neville said, referring to the players' performances under Carrick. "He'll look at those players with disgust. Some of them, he'll be disgusted with some of those players."

He added, "A few of them aren't that professional. I live in Manchester. Some of them aren't that professional. So I've got no time for them."

Neville's comments came after Manchester United suffered a 3-0 defeat at home to Bournemouth on Sunday, a result that intensified speculation about Carrick's future as manager. This followed a dismal 4-1 loss in Como.

Neville suggested that the players' behavior, including captain Bruno Fernandes's public criticism of team tactics earlier in the week, indicated a breakdown in the relationship between the squad and the manager.

"If Bruno has turned on him publicly, with that little statement, imagine what they're like behind the scenes," Neville commented. "If that's your captain saying that, imagine what they're saying in the dressing room behind closed doors when no one's listening. That's horrific."

Carrick himself acknowledged the difficult situation, stating after the Bournemouth match, "I totally understand the situation. I'm not expecting anything either way. I'm carrying on as normal. I love this place."

He also addressed the fans' support, saying, "It wasn't a farewell from me. I probably didn't really expect that off the supporters, if I'm honest, but I've always felt the support and that connection with them."

Carrick emphasized his commitment to the club, adding, "I've tried to do everything I can to not be in this position, of course I have. For a number of reasons, we've not been able to stop that happening to the position we're in right now."

Gary Neville believes Michael Carrick will be 'disgusted' by his Manchester United players

The team's performance has led to betting on Carrick's dismissal being suspended by some bookmakers, with Eddie Howe reportedly a favorite to take over if a change is made. Manchester United currently sits 16th in the Premier League standings.
