Garrett Wilson, wide receiver for the New York Jets, has publicly stated his belief that the team is realistically capable of making a playoff appearance this season. This sentiment comes as the franchise faces its 15th consecutive year without a playoff berth, the longest drought in North American professional sports.

Wilson, who signed a four-year, $130 million contract extension in July 2025, expressed his conviction in the team's current trajectory. "The playoffs, no doubt about it," Wilson said when asked about his definition of a successful season. He described the goal as "very realistic" and acknowledged that it is the team's responsibility to achieve it.

Despite the Jets' recent struggles, including a 22-46 record during Wilson's four seasons and a challenging 3-14 campaign in 2025, the receiver highlighted his observations during spring and summer practices. "I’ve seen everything I need to see out of the guys we have, and I’ve done things differently personally to try and play my role to the best of my ability this year to help fill in what was missing these past years to keep us from getting there," he stated.

Wilson, who has recorded three consecutive 1,000-yard receiving seasons despite quarterback instability, is also focusing on personal improvement. "On the mental side of it, as far as what do you think about when you leave the facility," he explained. "I’ve always prided myself on doing things right. Looking in the mirror after games, after practices, the way you watch film, the way you take notes. Little things like that."

He shared that conversations with teammates such as Breece Hall, Joe Tippmann, Jeremy Ruckert, Max Mitchell, and Xavier Newman-Johnson are centered on identifying what has been lacking and how to overcome challenges. "I’d be lying if I said that’s not all we talk about, ‘What’s missing? How do we get over the hump? What can we do?’ " Wilson said. "You get yourself into a black hole, honestly, trying to figure it out."

The Jets have made notable additions in the offseason, including the second overall draft pick David Bailey and veteran players Geno Smith, Demario Davis, and Minkah Fitzpatrick. Wilson expressed enthusiasm about the team's outlook and the upcoming season, stating, "We have as good of an opportunity as anyone else in the league. I’m excited. We got a helluva group here."
