Fulham is reportedly preparing a £24 million offer for Southampton midfielder Shea Charles, a move that could see them gazump Leeds United in the pursuit of the Northern Ireland international.
Leeds have made three separate bids for the 22-year-old, all of which have fallen short of Southampton's valuation. The south coast club is holding out for an offer of £25 million plus add-ons. With an agreement yet to be reached between Leeds and Southampton, Fulham are poised to make their move.
Manager Alvaro Arbeloa is reportedly in favor of the transfer for Charles, who began his career at Manchester City. Talks are expected to progress, according to reports.
Charles recently scored the winning goal in a match against Middlesbrough that appeared to secure Southampton's place in the play-off final against Hull City. He was not included in the squad for a recent friendly against Eastleigh, having been granted additional time off following international commitments with Northern Ireland.
Fulham is also exploring options in other areas of the squad. The club is showing interest in Arsenal winger Reiss Nelson, with Benfica and Valencia also reportedly monitoring the 26-year-old. Nelson is seeking more playing time after a loan spell at Brentford last season.
Additionally, Fulham is targeting Real Madrid's Franco Mastantuono as an ambitious signing for their wide attacking positions. The club has also held discussions with Trabzonspor regarding Nigerian center-back Chibuike Nwaiwu. Meanwhile, Valencia is also considering a move for Largie Ramazani, who was left out of Leeds' traveling party for their pre-season tour in the United States.
