Freddy Peralta's difficulties on the mound have followed him to his new team. In his first start for the Tampa Bay Rays following a trade from the New York Mets, the right-hander pitched just 3 2/3 innings, allowing seven earned runs on nine hits, including two home runs.
Peralta recorded three strikeouts and a walk before being removed in the fourth inning. His earned run average for the season has now risen to 5.37. A three-run blast by Mickey Moniak in the third inning tied the game at 5-5.
During his tenure with the Mets, Peralta posted a 4.99 ERA and a 1.478 WHIP. In a social media post, he expressed disappointment with how his time with the Mets unfolded. "Although things didn’t work out as we all hoped, I want to thank the fans, my teammates, and the Mets organization for the love that they showed me," Peralta wrote. "I want to wish everyone the best on their journey."
According to Mets interim manager Andy Green, Peralta had expressed unhappiness about his performance and the team's situation. "I know he’s disappointed by it," Green said. "He came here to anchor a rotation and felt the weight of that. From talking to him, he certainly doesn’t feel like it went the way he hoped it would. I think we all feel that way. I think where we are today screams that we’re all wishing we were in a different spot."
