Jockey Frankie Dettori has sustained multiple broken ribs and a fractured thumb following a car accident near Newmarket, Suffolk, on Wednesday evening. The incident occurred when another vehicle collided with the rear passenger side of Dettori's car, causing it to spin and overturn, according to a spokesperson for H Talent Management.
Dettori, 55, remains in hospital where medical teams are continuing to assess his injuries and conduct further scans. His management expressed gratitude to the emergency services who attended the scene, as well as the medical staff caring for him.
H Talent Management stated that Dettori's primary focus is on rest and recovery, and requested privacy for the jockey during this period. No further statements will be made until there is a significant update on his condition.
Dettori has not competed in Britain since October 2023, when he rode King of Steel to victory in the Champion Stakes at Ascot. He had been scheduled to return to racing in the Leger Legends race at Doncaster as part of the St Leger Festival in September.
