Former West Bromwich Albion footballer Quevin Castro died at the age of 25 after collapsing during a friendly match in Portugal.

The incident occurred during a game against third-tier Portuguese side Real Sport Clube. Medical personnel from the opposing team, Estrela da Amadora, attempted to revive Castro with a defibrillator, but he was rushed to a hospital and pronounced dead shortly after arrival. The match was subsequently canceled.

Castro, whose full name was Quevin Moises Cachicote da Rocha de Castro, was born in Portugal and grew up in Thetford, Norfolk. He had turned 25 on August 16.

His career included spells with several non-league clubs such as Mildenhall Town, Thetford Town, Norwich CBS, Leiston, and Bury Town. He also had trial periods at Ipswich Town, Sutton United, Arsenal, Chelsea, and West Bromwich Albion.

Castro signed a two-year contract with West Brom in the summer of 2021. He made his debut for the club on August 25, 2021, in an EFL Cup match against Arsenal. His sole league appearance for West Brom came on February 28, 2022, as a substitute in a Championship game against Swansea City.

He was loaned to League One side Burton Albion on July 14, 2022, but the loan was terminated by mutual consent on September 1 of that year. He then joined National League club Notts County on loan before playing for King's Lynn and Chippenham Town. In March 2024, Castro signed for Eastbourne Borough.

Real Sport Clube described Castro as "a player and beloved member of our sporting family" and extended condolences to his family and friends. Estrela da Amadora also expressed "profound sorrow" and offered deepest condolences to Castro's family and the Real Sport Clube organization.
