Former NFL linebacker Anthony Wint has earned a UFC contract following a dominant 34-second knockout victory on Dana White's Contender Series on Tuesday night. The 30-year-old heavyweight prospect made short work of opponent Matthew Adams at the Meta APEX in Las Vegas, overwhelming Adams with a rapid series of punches from the opening bell.
Wint's swift and decisive finish caught the attention of UFC President Dana White, who indicated that the fighter is eager for his official promotional debut. "Wint is fun. This guy is all over me," White told reporters. "He says, 'I'm not leaving Las Vegas until you guys get me a fight,' so probably put him on UFC Sacramento."
The UFC is reportedly working to schedule Wint for the Fight Night event on August 22 in Sacramento, a quick turnaround that White supports for fighters performing well. "I love guys who want to turn around quick and fight again. When you come into the Contender [Series] and you do well and you get that pop, staying active is the best thing you could do."
With this victory, Wint extends his undefeated professional mixed martial arts record to 7-0. He began training in combat sports in 2021, following the conclusion of his football career. Wint played for the New York Jets in the 2018 NFL season, appearing in two games, before a brief stint in the Canadian Football League.
White also commented on the potential crossover appeal of athletes from other sports, specifically mentioning Las Vegas Raiders star Maxx Crosby. White suggested that Crosby, with MMA training from a young age, could have become a world champion in the sport.
