Everton's pursuit of Monaco striker Folarin Balogun has fallen through after the player decided against the transfer at the eleventh hour. The Merseyside club had agreed to revised terms on a reported £40 million deal with Monaco, but the United States international withdrew his interest.

Negotiations reportedly stalled after an issue was identified during Balogun's medical examination. This prompted Everton to seek other options, including attempts to secure loan deals for Manchester United's Joshua Zirkzee and Aston Villa's Tammy Abraham. Both clubs declined these approaches, citing the late stage of the transfer window.

Everton had reached an agreement with Monaco on a new deal structure, which was progressing, only for Balogun to indicate he no longer wished to complete the transfer. The club has since moved to sign Ainsley Maitland-Niles from Lyon for £3 million and Jack Grealish on loan from Manchester City.
