This season, NHL officials have been instructed to enforce equipment regulations more strictly. According to The Athletic, Zegras had been warned about the jersey tuck prior to being penalized. The rulebook states that a repeat offense could result in a game misconduct.
Flyers head coach Rick Tocchet confirmed that the league had communicated an increased focus on equipment compliance, which includes items such as visors and neck guards, several weeks prior to the game. The Flyers ultimately won the game 2-0.
