Flyers Players Protest Jersey Tucking Penalty with Unified Tucks

The Philadelphia Flyers staged a humorous protest during their final preseason game against the Washington Capitals, with most of the team hitting the ice with their jerseys tucked into their pants. This action was in support of teammate Trevor Zegras, who had received a penalty for tucking his jersey in a previous preseason matchup against the Boston Bruins.

While the league has stated its intention to enforce proper equipment usage, including visors and neck guards, the application of the rule to jersey tucks was met with skepticism. Zegras' teammates evidently agreed with this sentiment, as evidenced by their coordinated jersey tucks. Even the team's mascot, Gritty, participated in the demonstration.

Zegras himself had previously voiced his disagreement with the penalty by sharing images from his youth hockey days, illustrating that jersey tucking has been a long-standing practice. Despite the protest, the Flyers ultimately lost the game to the Capitals 5-1, concluding their preseason with a record of 1-3. The team's regular season is set to begin on Tuesday.

Although the protest was a lighthearted response to the officiating, the Flyers will need to ensure all equipment rules are followed during official games. Their first regular-season game is scheduled for Wednesday night at home against the Pittsburgh Penguins.
