Florida State head coach Mike Norvell stated he does not believe he is coaching for his job, addressing "hot seat talk" that has surrounded him heading into the 2026 season. The topic was a significant focus at ACC Media Days in Charlotte, where Norvell was a prominent figure among media members.

Norvell acknowledged the scrutiny, which he attributes partly to his substantial buyout. However, he maintained a focus on the upcoming season, telling The Athletic that he is not coaching for his job and is confident in his team and the opportunities ahead. "I have a lot of confidence in who I am, the people I get to do it with and the opportunity that we have in front of us," Norvell told On3's Brett McMurphy. "If we fulfill that, then the rest of it will take care of itself."

This confidence contrasts with Florida State's performance over the last two seasons, which resulted in a 7-17 record. Despite a 23-4 record in the 2022 and 2023 seasons, those successes feel distant amid current challenges.

The Seminoles' recruiting efforts have also drawn attention, with their 2027 recruiting class currently ranked 53rd nationally, featuring six composite four-star recruits. This ranking is considered low for a program of Florida State's caliber, suggesting potential recruits may view the program's situation as uncertain.

Given Norvell's contract and the potential cost of termination, both the coach and the athletic department appear to be in a prolonged period of assessment. Norvell, however, presented a composed demeanor at the media days, maintaining that the team's performance will ultimately determine outcomes.
