Florida State and Louisville Clash in Key ACC Matchup
Both Seminoles and Cardinals seek momentum in a battle for bowl game positioning.
College football's ACC schedule features a critical matchup tonight between the Florida State Seminoles and the Louisville Cardinals. Both teams are aiming for a strong finish to the season that will secure them a bowl game appearance.
The Florida State Seminoles enter the game with a 3-2 record overall and a 1-1 mark in conference play. After an undefeated regular season in 2023, which was marred by late-season quarterback injuries and a subsequent blowout loss in the Orange Bowl, Florida State has faced a challenging start to the current campaign. The Seminoles opened with a 34-17 victory over New Mexico State, followed by close losses to No. 19 SMU (27-24) and Alabama (50-36). Recent wins against Central Arkansas (34-7) and Virginia (38-7) have shown improvement. Quarterback Ashton Daniels has thrown for six touchdowns but also committed six interceptions this season.
Louisville, with a 2-3 record and a 1-2 ACC standing, has struggled to close out close games. Their three losses have come by a combined nine points: a three-point defeat to Ole Miss in Week 1, followed by three-point losses to Wake Forest and NC State in recent weeks. The Cardinals secured wins against Villanova and SMU, with the latter being a 41-31 victory. Quarterback Lincoln Kienholz has been a bright spot, passing for 1,394 yards with nine touchdowns against just one interception. He also has six rushing touchdowns.
Both teams are looking to build momentum, with Florida State aiming to solidify its position and continue its upward trajectory after recent difficult seasons. Louisville, meanwhile, is striving to overcome its close-game deficits and prove its mettle against a competitive ACC opponent. The game is seen as a significant opportunity for both programs to inch closer to bowl eligibility.
