Florida Panthers Captain Aleksander Barkov Out 6-8 Weeks With Knee Injury
Coach Paul Maurice provides an update on the star player's condition following a recent game.
Florida Panthers captain Aleksander Barkov is expected to miss six to eight weeks after suffering a non-surgical knee injury. Head coach Paul Maurice confirmed the timeline, stating that the recovery period is based on non-surgical rehabilitation.
The injury occurred on October 1 during the Panthers' overtime loss to the San Jose Sharks. Barkov fell awkwardly along the boards, immediately heading off the ice. While the injury was concerning, the team views the current prognosis as a better outcome than initially feared, especially considering Barkov missed the entire previous season due to a knee injury.
The Panthers have been hampered by injuries early in the season. In addition to Barkov, defenseman Aaron Ekblad is currently listed as day-to-day, and forward Jonah Gadjovich is on the long-term injured reserve list with an upper-body injury.
Veteran forward Brad Marchand recently returned to action for the Boston Bruins after an injury sustained in March, scoring in his first game back sooner than expected. The Panthers have secured one win this season, defeating the Carolina Hurricanes in their opening game.
