Barcelona manager Hansi Flick stated that the club will "miss" Marcus Rashford, all but confirming the player's loan spell will not be extended. Rashford scored 14 goals and provided as many assists during his time with the LaLiga champions and had expressed a desire to remain in Spain.

However, Barcelona has since acquired wingers Anthony Gordon and Karim Adeyemi for a combined fee of £106.5 million. This significant investment makes activating Rashford's £26 million optional purchase clause highly improbable. The situation leaves Rashford facing a potential return to Manchester United, where he would work under new manager Michael Carrick.

Flick praised Rashford, calling him a "fantastic player and a fantastic person." He acknowledged the difficulties in player loan situations, stating, "I think our situation is not easy for that, but I appreciate a lot working with him as he’s a fantastic player and fantastic person. I think also the team miss him and I will miss him, but that’s life. This is what we have to accept."

While Barcelona's financial constraints have eased somewhat, they continue to face limitations. The club has yet to generate substantial funds from player sales this transfer window and still needs to replace Robert Lewandowski, who departed for Chicago Fire on a free transfer. Rashford's performances last season, which included a place in England's World Cup squad and a goal in the opening match against Croatia, are likely to attract other suitors. He has two years remaining on his contract with Manchester United.
