Fleetwood Stuns Arsenal in Carabao Cup Upset

Fleetwood Town has pulled off what is being described as the greatest upset in the history of the Carabao Cup, defeating Premier League champions Arsenal in a dramatic penalty shootout during the fourth round.

The match, held at Fleetwood's Highbury Stadium, saw the League Two side overcome a team featuring several senior Arsenal players, including Viktor Gyokeres and Kai Havertz. The atmosphere was electric, with the wind adding to the challenging conditions for both teams.

The game experienced an unusual delay early on when a drone hovered over the pitch, prompting a temporary halt to play. After a seven-minute stoppage, the teams resumed, and Fleetwood took a surprise lead in the 21st minute through Aaron Loupalo-Bi. Arsenal, however, found an equalizer in the second half thanks to Viktor Gyokeres, assisted by Ceadach O’Neill.

As the match progressed, Arsenal introduced Martin Odegaard, increasing their midfield dominance. Despite creating further chances, Fleetwood's defense held firm, and a late red card for Fleetwood's 16-year-old Max Dowman did not deter them.

The tie ultimately went to penalties, where Arsenal faltered. Bruno Guimaraes missed the Gunners' fourth spot-kick, and Conor Haughey converted Fleetwood's fifth to secure their place in the quarter-finals. The victory marks a monumental achievement for Fleetwood Town and a disappointing exit for Mikel Arteta's Arsenal side.
