A Fourth of July fireworks show following an Angel City FC soccer match in Los Angeles malfunctioned on Friday night, sending pyrotechnics into the crowd and prompting spectators to seek cover.

The incident occurred at BMO Stadium after Angel City FC defeated the Orlando Pride 2-0. As the post-match fireworks display began, some projectiles reportedly fired into the stands, causing alarm among fans.

Social media platforms featured videos and accounts from attendees describing the frightening moments. One user shared a post indicating they were "marked safe from Angel City's firework show," while another on Reddit described seeing "several flames go into the crowd" and called the experience "terrifying."

Another witness reported being "still shaking" hours later, with a father next to them diving to shield his children. The fan stated the event was "super scary" and expressed concern about developing PTSD from the sound of fireworks.

According to reports, one stray firework was directed toward the section occupied by Angel City co-founder Julie Uhrman, along with team staff and guests. Another firework reportedly struck a stadium security guard on the pitch.

An NWSL spokesperson for Angel City FC confirmed that a "fireworks malfunction did occur" during the celebration. The spokesperson added that the team's "medical and safety teams were on site and ready to respond." Stadium operations confirmed the venue was secure and all guests, staff, players, and crew were able to depart safely. The team is currently working with its pyrotechnics vendor to review the incident and determine next steps.

No major injuries were reported in connection with the malfunctioning fireworks.
