FIFA is facing criticism for its pricing strategy at a fan festival in New York City, with tickets costing up to £60 for access to the pre-World Cup final press conference. The event, branded as 'Fanatics Fest,' is being run by FIFA commercial partner Fanatics and is scheduled to take place from July 16-19.

The festival aims to celebrate the FIFA World Cup 2026 and FIFA Women's World Cup 2027 with interactive experiences, collectibles, gaming, entertainment, and live programming. Attendees can view the official FIFA World Cup Trophy and explore exclusive FIFA exhibits. The event culminates in a watch party for the World Cup final at the Javits Center.

A ticket for Friday, priced at £60 for adults and £26 for children, grants access to the press conference involving the World Cup finalists and FIFA president Gianni Infantino. The event is also set to feature appearances from football icons such as David Beckham, Kaká, Antoine Griezmann, Roberto Carlos, Rio Ferdinand, and Wesley Sneijder.

Former England player Rio Ferdinand is slated to host the event. Additional fees are being charged for photo opportunities with various sports stars. A photograph with Ferdinand is priced at £126. Photo opportunities with members of the NBA's New York Knicks and Brazilian football legend Kaká have already sold out. A picture with Cape Verde goalkeeper Vozinha is available for £85.

FIFA has previously faced scrutiny during the tournament for issues including high ticket prices and the implementation of hydration breaks, which have been utilized for selling advertising during matches. The governing body is also drawing criticism for its plans for a 30-minute half-time show at the World Cup final, exceeding the 15-minute maximum permitted by the rulebook.
