Arthur Fery kept British hopes alive at Wimbledon by fighting back from a set down to defeat Otto Virtanen of Finland and reach the third round of the Grand Slam. The 23-year-old wildcard secured a 5-7, 7-6 (7-3), 6-3, 6-3 victory on court 18.

Fery's win follows his first-round victory where he also rallied from a set down against Damir Dzumhur, making him the first British man to reach the second round at Wimbledon since 1988. This marks Fery's first appearance in the third round of a Grand Slam.

Katie Swan, making her first Wimbledon appearance in three years, was unable to advance, falling to a 6-1, 6-4 defeat against American Madison Keys. Swan's second-round match marked her first Grand Slam main-draw win since defeating Irina-Camelia Begu in 2018.

Only four British players remained at the All England Club after the opening round, with 15 Britons eliminated at the first hurdle.

Fellow Britons Jacob Fearnley and Jan Choinski are set to compete later in the day against Jaume Munar and Frances Tiafoe, respectively. Fery, currently ranked 114th in the world, is scheduled to face either Zizou Bergs of Belgium or Jaime Faria of Portugal in his next match.
