Fernandes Retains Man United Captaincy After Talks with Carrick
Michael Carrick confirmed Bruno Fernandes will continue as club captain and return to the team for the Chelsea match following disciplinary action.
Michael Carrick has confirmed that Bruno Fernandes will remain as Manchester United's captain after holding "clear-the-air talks" with the player. Fernandes was dropped for the recent match against Bournemouth following criticism of the manager's tactics after the loss to Como.
Carrick, who himself has faced speculation about his future as head coach, stated he is not surprised to still be in the role despite overseeing the club's worst start to a season in 40 years. He emphasized his commitment to improving the team's performance.
"Bruno is fully committed to the football club, there's no issues with that," Carrick said. "We look ahead to the game on Saturday. He's an important player for this group. He has been and he will be."
Carrick confirmed that Fernandes, who has often led the team, will continue in that capacity. "He's fully committed to making things better. It doesn't change for me. He's the one that's kind of led the team so well for many a game and many a year, and he'll continue to do that."
The team is preparing to face Chelsea on Saturday, with Fernandes expected to be back in the lineup. Carrick acknowledged the team's current struggles but expressed determination to turn the season around.
