The Atlanta Falcons are facing significant uncertainty regarding their pass rush heading into the 2026 season, with both of their top edge rushers from the 2025 NFL Draft potentially unavailable.

Linebacker Jalon Walker is feared to have torn the ACL in his left knee during practice on Tuesday. The team's medical staff expressed deep concern after initial tests suggested a possible, if not probable, ACL tear. Walker sustained the injury during practice, and teammates immediately recognized the severity, with the session being cut short by approximately 45 minutes. If confirmed by an MRI, the injury would likely end Walker's 2026 season after just one week of training camp.

Meanwhile, linebacker James Pearce Jr. is under review by the NFL for a potential suspension stemming from offseason legal issues. Pearce was arrested on Feb. 7 and charged with aggravated battery with a deadly weapon, fleeing and eluding police, resisting an officer with violence, and misdemeanor stalking following an incident involving his former girlfriend. In April, Pearce entered a six-month pretrial intervention program, which required no admission of guilt and carried no jail time, with charges to be dismissed upon successful completion. Despite the criminal proceedings' outcome, the NFL's Commissioner Roger Goodell can still impose discipline if the conduct is found to have violated the league's Personal Conduct Policy.

The league has been monitoring the case, and Pearce could face suspension or other disciplinary action regardless of the criminal court proceedings. If both players are unavailable, the Falcons would need to rely on backups or seek help from the free agent market, which currently offers limited high-impact options such as veterans Joey Bosa or Haason Reddick. The team, aiming to compete in the NFC South, now prioritizes addressing the potential void in their pass rush.
