Falcons' Bijan Robinson Advocates for Indoor NFL Stadiums

Atlanta Falcons running back Bijan Robinson believes that all NFL teams would benefit from playing their games in indoor stadiums. Robinson, whose home stadium, Mercedes-Benz Stadium, is equipped with a retractable roof, sees playing in a controlled environment as a significant advantage.

"I wish one day the NFL can make every team indoors. I think that would be sick," Robinson told OutKick. He highlighted that an indoor setting eliminates concerns about weather conditions, such as rain, snow, or strong winds, ensuring a consistent playing field for all.

Currently, 10 NFL stadiums have domes or fixed/retractable roofs, with the Falcons being one of 11 teams that do not have to contend with outdoor elements during home games. Robinson acknowledged that traditional football fans appreciate the challenges presented by various weather conditions, but suggested that many would also enjoy the consistency of indoor play.

"I know they love the snow, they love to be in it. But I feel like there would be a lot of people, too, that might enjoy not having to shovel it out," Robinson said. "If you could just go inside, go there and enjoy the game. Hopefully, we’ll see. Maybe in 10 years we could make that happen."

While Robinson's vision of a fully indoor league is unlikely, the trend toward enclosed venues is evident in new stadium construction. Seven new NFL stadiums currently under construction or planned are designed with domes, retractable roofs, or skylights. Notable exceptions include the new open-air Highmark Stadium in Buffalo. However, teams like the Tennessee Titans and Cleveland Browns are building enclosed venues, and projects for the Washington Commanders, Chicago Bears, Denver Broncos, and Kansas City Chiefs also plan to enclose their fields.

Robinson emphasized the benefits of indoor play for players, noting the absence of distractions from sun or cold. "It’s definitely awesome to get to play inside. That’s a huge advantage because you don’t have to worry about the elements," he explained. "The sun, like, dragging down your energy, or the cold."

Beyond his views on stadium infrastructure, Robinson also discussed his partnership with Sonic, promoting their $7 Big Deal Meal as an affordable option for families during football season. He was featured in the "My Greatest 7" campaign alongside Buccaneers quarterback Baker Mayfield.
