Former NFL practice squad player Damoun Patterson, 31, has been arrested and charged with several felony offenses in Florida, including armed burglary of a dwelling, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, grand theft of a motor vehicle, and criminal mischief. The arrests stem from an alleged home invasion in Orlando.
Daytona Beach Police Department officers took Patterson into custody. Jail booking records confirmed he was being held in Volusia County as of Monday afternoon. According to a charging affidavit, law enforcement had issued a be-on-the-lookout alert for Patterson and a stolen vehicle in connection with the alleged Orlando incident.
Officers located and stopped a white Kia, which was reported stolen. Bodycam footage from the traffic stop showed an officer drawing a weapon and instructing Patterson to exit the vehicle. During the stop, officers observed a knife inside the car.
Patterson, an Orlando native who played college football at Utah State, Highland Community College, and Youngstown State, spoke with police about his past football career. He mentioned that the Pittsburgh Steelers had clocked him running at 23 mph and that he had broken both his toes. Patterson also told officers that the Steelers had hosted him for a workout and that they should have drafted him.
Officers informed Patterson that the Kia he was driving was stolen and that he would be taken to jail, noting he could face further police inquiries. Patterson previously spent time on offseason rosters and practice squads with the New England Patriots, Pittsburgh Steelers, Atlanta Falcons, and Tampa Bay Buccaneers, but he never appeared in a regular-season NFL game.
