Ex-Liverpool Goalkeeper Peter Gulacsi Robbed at Gunpoint
Villarreal's Peter Gulacsi and his family were targeted in an armed robbery at their Spanish home and missed a Champions League match.
Former Liverpool goalkeeper Peter Gulacsi and his family were subjected to an armed robbery at their home in Puzol, Spain, leading to his withdrawal from Villarreal's Champions League match against Napoli.
Four masked intruders, reportedly armed with pistols, broke into the family's luxury home on Tuesday morning. Gulacsi and his wife, Diana Vigh, were allegedly held at gunpoint during the incident, which lasted about an hour. One of the couple's two children is believed to have been present at the time.
Gulacsi was reportedly ordered by the intruders to hand over valuables from a safe. No injuries are believed to have been sustained during the ordeal. The intruders fled the scene in two vehicles, and a police investigation is currently underway with no arrests made.
As a result of the incident, Gulacsi was ruled out of Villarreal's Champions League fixture later that day, which the Spanish club won 3-1. The goalkeeper is said to be shaken by the event.
Gulacsi joined Villarreal in August after an 11-year tenure as the primary goalkeeper for German club RB Leipzig, where he made over 350 appearances. He began his senior career at Liverpool in 2007 but did not make a competitive appearance for the club, spending several seasons on loan at other English teams. He retired from international duty with Hungary in the summer of 2025, having earned 58 caps for his country.
