Ex-Bayern CEO Warns Nagelsmann Against Man United Move

Former Bayern Munich CEO Oliver Kahn has cautioned Julian Nagelsmann against taking the managerial position at Manchester United, citing the club's recent history of managerial instability and potential concerns about Nagelsmann's own experience.

Kahn, who worked with Nagelsmann during the German's tenure as Bayern manager, suggested that a move to Old Trafford would represent an "enormous risk." He noted on German television that "essentially every manager in recent years has failed sooner or later" at Manchester United. Nagelsmann is reportedly among a group of candidates considered to replace current manager Michael Carrick, whose position is under pressure following a recent defeat.

Nagelsmann, 39, has managed Hoffenheim, RB Leipzig, Bayern Munich, and the German national team. However, his most recent roles at Bayern and with the national team ended with dismissals, with Kahn himself having cited issues with the team's performance and communication style under Nagelsmann.

"The Premier League and Manchester United have not been known for much continuity in the managerial position in recent years," Kahn stated. "He has to ask himself: What is my next step? Does it not have to be the right one? Or do I immediately associate it with an enormous risk like Manchester United? You should look very carefully at where you're going."

Kahn suggested that while Nagelsmann has the potential to develop a club and team, the suitability of Manchester United as his next destination is uncertain. He added that both Bayern Munich and the national team positions were significant challenges for Nagelsmann.

Reports indicate that Manchester United's director of recruitment, Christopher Vivell, is advocating for Nagelsmann, having previously assessed him during his time at Chelsea. However, other influential figures within the club reportedly favor managers with proven Premier League experience, such as Eddie Howe or Unai Emery.

Carrick's position is expected to remain stable at least through the upcoming weekend's fixture against Bournemouth. Manchester United is navigating internal discussions and player comments that have highlighted difficulties in achieving consistent success and winning trophies in recent years, with captain Bruno Fernandes questioning tactics and recruitment strategies.
