Everton has canceled a proposed deal to transfer midfielder Harrison Armstrong to Nottingham Forest following significant backlash from its own supporters. The decision marks a notable instance where fan sentiment appears to have directly influenced a club's transfer strategy.
Armstrong, who has made 24 appearances for Everton this season, recently played 87 minutes in a match against Bournemouth before being substituted. Following that game, Everton manager David Moyes acknowledged the fans' frustration, suggesting that the decision-making process might extend beyond his purview.
"I think you always have to consider supporters; supporters aren't always wrong," Moyes stated after the match. He further commented on the complexities of club decisions, noting, "But then there are also times where I've had people at clubs who are really powerful and make difficult decisions. Managers have to make decisions on players sometimes and they feel like huge decisions. But there are sometimes bigger decisions to be made and the club will, I'm sure, make what they think is the right one."
Moyes concluded by stating, "If I'd say something to them (the fans), I'd say their manager's an Evertonian," a remark seemingly aimed at bridging the divide between club management and the fanbase.
