Chris Eubank Jr. offered a pointed remark to his rival Conor Benn following Benn's second-round stoppage loss to Ryan Garcia in Las Vegas. Garcia defended his WBC welterweight crown in the bout.
Benn was knocked down in the second round by a right hook. Although he beat the referee's count, Garcia continued his assault, leading to the stoppage by referee Thomas Taylor. This marked Benn's first fight at welterweight in four years, a weight class that required him to cut weight significantly. Benn's defeat dashed his hopes of winning the world title.
Eubank Jr., who himself had to make weight for his previous fights against Benn, appeared to find humor in Benn's situation. He posted on X (formerly Twitter) shortly after the fight, "Welcome to the 'fighting after cutting too much weight' club… Enjoy."
Prior to the fight, Eubank Jr. had also shared a photo with Garcia, captioning it, "Get the job done kid."
For his two bouts against Benn last year, Eubank Jr. had to make the middleweight limit of 160 pounds. He initially missed the weight for their first fight before successfully making it for the second.
Garcia's victory over Benn was his first defense of the WBC title. Following the fight, Garcia stated that he had been hampered by injuries but expressed confidence in his right hand. He also mentioned his ambition to fight Teofimo Lopez and Devin Haney again. Benn was taken to a hospital for precautionary checks after the fight.
