Estevao Willian, the 19-year-old winger, made a significant impact in Chelsea's 2-0 Premier League victory against Manchester United, a performance that drew praise and questions about his limited prior opportunities this season. Despite being an unused substitute in the midweek League Cup match against Liverpool, Estevao started against United at Stamford Bridge. His electric display was recognized by the home crowd, who chanted his nickname, "Steve-o," early in the match.

During his 86-minute appearance, Estevao had an early goal disallowed for offside and another near-post finish also ruled out. He registered six shots, the joint-most by a Chelsea player in a Premier League match this season, and contributed significantly with 12 touches in the opposition penalty area, three created chances, eight crosses, and five completed dribbles. Following his performance, he received a standing ovation and a hug from Chelsea head coach Xabi Alonso.

Estevao's limited involvement this season, with only one prior start in the Carabao Cup against Luton Town in September, had led to speculation in Brazilian media about his potential unhappiness or desire for a move. However, sources within Chelsea and close to the player have indicated no signs of discontent, citing his professionalism and strong competition from other attackers like Cole Palmer and Joao Pedro as reasons for his lack of game time. Chelsea's tendency to take early leads in matches has also sometimes led to the selection of more defensive options from the bench.

Alonso confirmed after the match that the decision to start Estevao against Manchester United was made after the previous weekend's home defeat to Tottenham. "We spoke after Tottenham and he knew that he was going to be playing tonight, today," Alonso stated. "He has had the best response to show that he deserves more, that he was prepared, and that's what you want from a football player, so I'm very happy for him."

The match's opening goal came in the 50th minute from Morgan Rogers, who took possession from Romeo Lavia and wove through the Manchester United defense before scoring. This goal settled a disjointed Chelsea team, with Rogers' solo effort being described by TNT Sports pundit Joe Cole as "Gascoigne-esque."

Chelsea faced challenges, including the absence of eight players and the thigh injury to first-choice striker Joao Pedro. Rogers, who struggled as a central striker in the previous match against Tottenham, was rewarded for his continued inclusion. Rogers' goal was his sixth of the season in all competitions, bringing his total goal involvements to 10 in 13 appearances, making him one of the most featured players for Chelsea this season and one of only two Premier League players, alongside Erling Haaland, to reach 10 goal involvements.

Cole Palmer sealed the victory with a penalty, his first goal in six games, following a week where he received a red card against Tottenham. Alonso acknowledged that Chelsea remains a work in progress but emphasized the team's potent attack. "Today has worked really well," Alonso said. "We need to be creative at times and try to find solutions with the players available."
