ESPN NFL Draft analyst Matt Miller is scheduled for a major surgery Friday to assess the possibility of reconstructing his shoulder to accommodate a prosthetic arm after losing his left arm in a severe car accident.

Miller announced the upcoming procedure on X, formerly Twitter, stating, "To find out if my shoulder can be reconstructed in order to support a prosthetic arm. Your continued thoughts and prayers are so appreciated."

The accident occurred last week in Jasper County, Missouri, when Miller's 2023 Ford Bronco reportedly crossed the center line on Route 96 and collided with a semi-truck. The driver of the semi-truck was not injured.

Miller, 42, shared details of the incident on X earlier in the week, describing it as a "serious car accident" that resulted in significant injuries, including multiple fractures and broken ribs. He underwent a "life-saving amputation of [his] left arm."

"While I have a long road ahead, I’m focused on my recovery and taking things one day at a time," Miller stated.

Further details emerged in a GoFundMe post, which specified that Miller suffered a compound fracture of his left femur and a shattered left kneecap, in addition to other injuries. Doctors performed the emergency amputation to save his life. The post also noted that his head, neck, and spine were not seriously injured.

Miller remains in the intensive care unit and has already undergone surgery on his left leg. He joined ESPN in 2021 as an NFL Draft contributor and became a year-round Draft analyst in 2022. Prior to his work at ESPN, Miller was the lead NFL draft writer at Bleacher Report for 11 years. He is a father of two children, Hayley and Emmitt.
