ESPN Anchor Hannah Storm Misses NYC Marathon Amid Second Cancer Battle

Longtime ESPN anchor Hannah Storm announced Wednesday that she will miss co-hosting the New York City Marathon, an event she has covered for over a decade, due to a second cancer diagnosis. Storm, 64, revealed she recently underwent a hysterectomy and has been cleared of cancer but will take additional time to recover as advised by her doctors.

'This year I will be cheering on my ESPN/ABC NYC Marathon family from my living room,' Storm wrote on her Instagram Story. 'I was hoping to be back in time for Sunday's race, but my doctors have advised me to take a little more time to recover from surgery. Most importantly, I'm very grateful to be cancer-free after undergoing a hysterectomy.'

Storm expressed gratitude to Dr. Monica Prasad-Hayes and her team at the Mount Sinai Tisch Cancer Center for her care. She also wished well to participants running in the marathon for various causes, including the Hannah Storm Foundation.

Storm joined ESPN in 2008 and also anchors 'SportsCenter.' She publicly shared her first cancer diagnosis in 2024, revealing she had ductal carcinoma in situ (DCIS), an early form of breast cancer. Following a lumpectomy, she was declared cancer-free and was undergoing a three-year treatment of tamoxifen.

It remains unclear what type of cancer Storm was diagnosed with this second time, but her hysterectomy suggests it may be a gynecological cancer. She is married to sportscaster Dan Hicks, and they have three daughters.
